Read before quoting

Assumptions

  • Customs value is CIF for all destinations except the US, where FOB is used.
  • DDP quotes treat duty as included; duty is shown for information at zero added cost.
  • VAT is a cash-flow line when recoverable and a cost when not recoverable.
  • FX rates are indicative and shown with their source and date.
  • Verify classification, origin and tariff measures before quoting.

How this is calculated

Incoterms and goods value

The option price is normalised from its Incoterm. Costs already included in the Incoterm are not added again. EXW excludes origin charges, main freight, insurance, destination charges, inland delivery and duty; DAP includes everything except duty; DDP treats duty as included in the quoted price.

Customs value and duty

The customs value is CIF for the UK, EU and GCC destinations and FOB for the United States. Duty is applied to the customs value. Additional measures, US MPF and HMF are added where configured. Preferential rates are only used when the origin is eligible and the rules of origin can be met.

VAT and cash flow

Import VAT is calculated on the customs value plus duty plus costs to the first destination. Recoverable VAT is shown as a cash-flow line and excluded from landed cost. Non-recoverable VAT is treated as a cost.

Financing and inventory

Financing uses the goods value, cost of capital and the cash-cycle days: payment terms plus transit minus the customer payment offset. Inventory carrying cost uses transit plus safety-stock days. Tooling is amortised over the stated quantity. Quality allowance is a percentage of goods value.

Tariff and FX sources

UK rates come from the GOV.UK Trade Tariff API and fall back to the published UK Global Tariff file when the API is unavailable. FX comes from Frankfurter / ECB reference rates. Both show their source and date; verify the classification, origin and measure before relying on a quote.

Which customs value basis is used?+

CIF for the UK, EU and GCC destinations, and FOB for the United States. The result shows the basis used for each option.

Does DDP include duty?+

Yes. DDP is treated as a delivered-duty-paid price, so duty is shown for information but not added again. Check that the supplier has actually quoted DDP and not DAP.

Is VAT part of landed cost?+

Only when it is not recoverable. Recoverable import VAT is a cash-flow item, not an economic cost, so it is excluded from the landed cost total.

How current is the UK tariff?+

Rates refresh daily from the GOV.UK Trade Tariff, with a published fallback table if the API is unavailable. Commodity codes, origin rules and additional measures can change; check the live tariff before committing to a quote.

Can I compare origins outside the listed countries?+

The tariff lookup supports two-letter origin codes. If a preferential measure is not available for that origin, the third-country rate is used. You can always enter your own duty override.
