What we make

Bolts, screws and studs

Brass bolts, terminal screws and studs, rolled or cut threads, plain or plated.

For terminals, earthing and busbar joints

Nuts and washers

Hex, square, flange and terminal nuts, with plain and spring washers.

For terminal blocks and switchgear

Threaded inserts

Knurled inserts for moulding-in, heat staking or press-fit into plastic.

For MCB housings, enclosures and mouldings

Terminal and neutral links

Turned and drilled terminal bodies, neutral links and earth bars with clamping screws.

For distribution boards and terminal blocks

Earthing and bonding parts

Earth studs, clamps, rod couplers and bonding terminals.

For panels, enclosures and earthing systems

Cable gland parts

Gland bodies, seal nuts and entry threads in brass, plain or nickel plated.

For cable entries into enclosures

Choosing a brass

Free-cutting brass machines fastest. DZR and low-lead grades answer to water and to the rules on lead.

Knurl Thread

Grade for the part and the market

Free-cutting brass CW614N
The fastest to machine, with sharp, clean threads. The usual grade for turned parts and fasteners.Watch for: Contains about 3% lead, allowed under a RoHS exemption that is under review; check your market.
Forging brass CW617N
Hot forged into near-net blanks, then machined, for terminal bodies and complex shapes.Watch for: A forging die is needed; it pays back at volume.
DZR brass CW602N
Resists dezincification, for parts that see water, condensation or outdoor air.Watch for: Looks the same as standard brass; it must be named on the drawing.
Low-lead brass CW510L, CW724R
Under 0.2% lead, for customers and markets that limit lead.Watch for: Slower to machine and costs more.

Finish for the use

Natural
Bare brass, cleaned and passivated.Watch for: Tarnishes over time; fine inside an enclosure.
Nickel
Bright and corrosion resistant, the usual finish for fasteners and glands.Watch for: Plating changes the thread fit; gauge after plating.
Tin
For faces that carry current, such as terminal parts.Watch for: Soft, so not for faces that wear.

Which brass

Machining speed, forming and corrosion pull in different directions. The use decides the grade.

Relative ratings for guidance, from published copper alloy data. Grades named to EN 12164 and EN 12165.

Questions buyers ask

Is leaded brass RoHS compliant?+

Copper alloys with up to 4% lead are allowed under a RoHS exemption, which covers free-cutting brass. The exemption is under review, so if your market limits lead, we quote low-lead brass instead.

What is DZR brass?+

Dezincification-resistant brass. In water and damp air, zinc can leach out of standard brass and leave it weak and porous. DZR brass resists this. Name it on the drawing, because it looks the same.

Do you gauge threads after plating?+

Yes. Plating adds thickness and changes the fit, so threads are gauged go and no-go after plating, to the class on your drawing.

Moulded-in or press-fit insert: which do I need?+

A moulded-in insert gives the highest pull-out and torque strength. Heat-staked and press-fit inserts go in after moulding, which keeps the moulding cycle short. The knurl is designed for the method.

Can you match an existing part from another supplier?+

Yes. Send the drawing, and a sample if the drawing is incomplete. We tell you what can be held before we quote, then make samples for your approval.

Can you take a small order?+

Yes. Small, engineering-heavy batches are work we take, from prototype quantities upwards.
